What is a Fume Hood?

A Fume Hood (also called a Laboratory Fume Cupboard) is a ventilated enclosure designed to limit exposure to hazardous or toxic fumes. Air is drawn from the laboratory into the hood and exhausted outside (ducted type) or filtered and recirculated (ductless type). This protects both the operator and laboratory environment from harmful exposure.
